At Forest Farm we have a herd of 150 happy organic Friesian and Jersey cows, who have the freedom to roam and graze the chemical-free pastures of our farm in Aberdeenshire.

Happy, Healthy Cows

Our Herd

They’re a real part of the family and are affectionally known as the "girls", with their own names and individual characters!

Their delicious, rich, creamy organic milk is the key ingredient in our award-winning gelato and other artisan dairy products. We stand by the principle that producing the best milk starts with happy, healthy cows.

Grassfix & Chill

Our Herd

Our organic cows spend as much time as possible outside, roaming, relaxing and dining on pastures which have been certified organic for over 20 years.

Due to the bracing Scottish climate, there are certain months during the winter when it’s not possible for the cows to graze. During the winter months our girls move into our Moo-tel which is designed for cow comfort, featuring cow mattresses and two automatic back rub stations!

They dine on conserved organic grass called silage and other homegrown organic crops such as peas and barley to maintain a balanced and healthy diet.

Milking Time

Our Herd

At Forest Farm we don’t push our cows to give too much milk. Instead, our focus is on quality and having a farm full of happy, healthy and relaxed cows.

Our cows are milked twice a day and we use milking machines for high hygiene and cow comfort. The milk flows through a sealed line and filters to a refrigerated storage tank, where it is kept cool, ready to be sent to be sent to the creamery to supply our milk refill stations or be made into gelato.

After each milking the cows return to pasture and all parts of the dairy are thoroughly cleaned.
