Organic Farming

We believe that farming organically, following the year’s natural rhythms, is not only best for the future of our planet, but also better for our wellbeing too.

We don’t believe in a process that can’t support itself without a reliance on chemicals, so over 25 years we have developed an organic one that can. We use crop rotation, active habitat management, and careful timings of cultivations to make sure the whole farm works in harmony, year after year. We are certified by and work closely with the Soil Association.

Healthy soil – Healthy farm – Healthy people

Soil Matters

Organic Farming

For us, it all starts with the soil. Soil is a combination of minerals, organic matter, air, water and living organisms all doing their own important undercover jobs! We farm in a way that regenerates soil health and cares for this natural resource. Our pastures are a mixture of diverse, deep rooting plants to improve soil structure, retain moisture and build carbon.

Our fields are full of white clover which take nitrogen from the air and into the soil for a natural energy boost! The tiny leaves act like millions of tiny solar panels, removing nitrogen from the atmosphere and storing the energy in the soil where it’s available for other plants. Not only do soils help combat climate change, they also help reduce the effects of climate change. Healthy well managed soils capture carbon dioxide and store it as soil organic carbon. It is so much more than mud or dirt!

Animal Welfare

Organic Farming

Animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. We are certified by the Soil Association, which has the highest standards for animal welfare of any farming system in the UK.

Our cows are a real part of the family, with their own names and detailed family trees. Our cows spend as much time as possible outside, roaming, relaxing and dining on pastures which have been certified organic for over 20 years. They never eat genetically modified crops and we will never grow them.

The Birds & The Bees

Organic Farming

Did you know that organic farms like ours are home to up to 50% more wildlife? This is because we do not use harmful chemical pesticides, fungicides and herbicides.

Instead, we work regeneratively with nature to support a thriving ecosystem of birds, bees, butterflies and other wildlife, including barn owls and native bats. By rotating pastures and crops around the farm, we naturally enrich the soil and keep pests in check - just like in the old days.
